Common wilderness first aid methods

1. CPR

1. Check if the victim is still breathing. 2. Call for help immediately (if there is a cell phone signal). 3.CPR: Press the center of the victim’s chest at a rate of about 100-120 times per minute, to a depth of about 5-6 cm, and give the victim 2 artificial respirations after every 30 compressions (if there is professional training). 4. Continue until professional rescuers arrive or the victim regains consciousness and breathes normally.

2.Stop bleeding

1. Apply direct pressure to the bleeding area with a clean cloth, gauze or clothing. 2. If the cloth is soaked with blood, do not remove it and continue to apply pressure. 3. Maintain pressure until the bleeding stops or rescuers arrive. 4. If the bleeding cannot be controlled, consider using a tourniquet, but only use it in an emergency and mark the time the tourniquet is applied.

3. Fractures of limbs.

Applicable cases: Fractures of limbs.
Steps:
1. Try not to move the injured person to avoid secondary injury.
2. Use branches, hiking sticks and other items to fix the injured part, wrap it with a cushion and fix it with a rope or cloth strip.
3. If there is an open fracture, cover the wound with a clean cloth to avoid infection.

4.Skin burns

Applicable cases: Skin burns.
Steps:
1. Immerse the burn area in cold water or rinse with cold water for at least 10 minutes immediately.
2. Do not use ice cubes to directly contact the burn area.
3. Cover the burn area with a clean cloth or sterile dressing to prevent infection.
4. Avoid using homemade remedies such as ointments or butter.

5. Heat stroke

Applicable situations: high body temperature, dry, red and hot skin.
1. Move the victim to a cool place away from direct sunlight. 2. Let the victim lie down and raise his legs. 3. Use a wet cloth or cold water to wipe the victim’s body to help cool down. 4. Give the victim small sips of cold water, but don’t drink too much at one time.

6.Snake bite

Applicable situations: snake bite.
1. Let the victim sit still and stay calm, and avoid strenuous exercise.
2. Try to keep the bite below the level of the heart.
3. Use a rope or cloth to gently tie 5-10 cm above the bite to prevent the spread of venom.
4. Do not try to suck out the venom or cut the wound.
5. Seek medical help immediately.

7. Hypothermia, chills, and confusion.

Applicable situations: hypothermia, chills, and confusion.
1. Move the injured to a warm, dry place.
2. Replace wet clothing and wrap the injured with a dry blanket or clothing.
3. Give the injured warm, non-alcoholic beverages, such as hot water or hot tea.
4. Avoid direct contact of hot water bottles or heating pads with the skin to prevent burns.

8.Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)

When you are in danger in the wild, the key is to respond calmly, seek help in time, and take correct first aid measures. Ensuring the safety of yourself and your companions, making rational use of resources, and staying healthy are the basis for a successful escape. Understanding and mastering basic first aid knowledge and wilderness survival skills can greatly increase your chances of survival in an emergency.
