- Locate the ceiling joist using a stud finder. Ceiling joists are typically 16 or 24 inches apart, so once you discover one, it should be quite easy to find another if it is too near to something else.
- Locate a suitable stud, mark both sides with a pencil, and drill through the middle.
- Drill a pilot hole in the center mark for the eyebolt screw. Make sure the drill bit is smaller than the eye screw bolt’s width. The pilot hole should be around 2 to 3 inches deep.
- Insert the eye bolt screw into the hole you bore. The screw should be long enough to twist around 2-3 inches into the ceiling. The eye ring of the screw bolt should be touching the ceiling. If it becomes difficult to get the screw all the way in, insert a screwdriver into the head of the eye bolt and spin it all the way.
- Connect the S-hook to the eye bolt ring, then connect the swivel, spring, or chair hanging kit. Finally, attach the chair.
Finally, test the chair by gradually adding weight to it. Begin with fifty pounds of weights, cans, or books. If it holds, carefully sit in the chair with your feet firmly on the ground until it can support your weight.
